Wings win in 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks. Nicholas Kronwall with the hit of the night and a goal, Jonathan Erickson, Thomas Holmstrom, and Dan Cleary scored. But if it wasn't for Jimmy Howard and Pavel Datsyuk this game would have been a loss. Pavel was assisting left and right even though they claimed him injured? Howard was making saves left and right. Way to pull it out Red Wings. Just 2 games left to move on to the next series of the playoffs.

Not Looking So Hot

The Red Wings just can't seem to pull out a win with seven key players out with injuries. Two shut outs in a row against the Chicago Blackhawks. 4 in the last 14 games this year. It hasn't been that bad since 1958-1959 season! Although the players who have stepped up to take their places in my mind, are not bad players they simply need to find their place on the team. Pavel Datsyuk this year cannot seem to find the back of the net but is doing very well in takeaways and is leading the league in that category. It seems to me that the players rely on Pavel Datsyuk a little too much sending him half ass passes and assuming he will take it in by himself. Which in a lot of cases he will but they can't expect him to do that every night. The Red Wings need better passes, more hits, and quality shots. They miss the net continuously not excluding Datsyuk either. To sum it up The Red Wings are in a bit of a slump but I think they will find their way out of it into the next year of this season.

Datsyuk is back and it's obvious!
Rafalski with a great pass up the ice to Pavel Datsyuk who crossed it over to Cleary. Cleary beats Fleury with a shot through the legs of a defenseman and just underneath glove of Fluery.1-0
End of the first period.
Beginning of the Second Period Datsyuk with awesome moves almost scores again. Shortly there after...
Osgood pass from behind his own net to Hossa who received the pass at the far blue line assisted to Filppula who just got off the bench and backhands it in. 2-0
Kronwall scores through three of the Penguins looking like a forward going right in front of the net after receiving a behind the net pass from Franzen. 3-0

Rafalski scored, nice screen by Holmstrom Fleury never even saw it! 4-0 Great pass from Datsyuk getting his second assist in this game. Pavel Datsyuk playing as if he never left, even though he was gone for 18 games! It's great to have him back!

Samuelson passed back to Hudler who rifles a pass to Zetterberg who settles the pass and scores it top shelf. 5-0, in turn they pull Fluery to put in Gueiren their second string goalie.
Penguins much like other teams get desperate and dirty when the Red Wings make them look bad. Cheap shots on Zetterberg and Datsyuk were just plain unsportsmanlike! The Red Wings normally let other teams pay for being that way as they did tonight. #87 Crosby hacked Zetterberg and then #25 Talbot hacked Datsyuk trying to take out his recent injury!
Still 5-0 into the third period.

Mike Milbury during the second Intermission saying Datsyuk should sit out? Then he said and I quote "if your going to slash somebody, make it hurt for crying out loud!" What an a$$

From what I can gather Pavel Datsyuk is unlikely to play once again in the Stanley Cup Finals. Mike Babcock says "They had another look at him today and everything seems to be fine. Now, it’s up to him." Being up 2 games why chance it. Chris Draper is well but will sit this one out, unless he is needed.
Why fix something that isn't broken I guess.

Datsyuk May Miss Game Three Vs. Chicago

Word has it that Datsyuk may not play in game three Vs. Chicago, due to taking a shot in the foot the last game. The game won't be the same without him although some people speculate saying he hasn't done much so far anyways. I for one wish he was going to play. Don't get me wrong though? It's not that The Red Wings can't beat Chicago without him. It's more the excitement he brings to the game with his tricks,assists and unbelievable takeaways. But if it's time he needs, than just like any other player I would rather have them sit out, than agitate his foot making it worse.

"It's day-to-day," Babcock said of Datsyuk. "He got a rocket off the foot the other night. You know, you go from there and you see what happens."

"Helmer played a great playoffs so far," Samuelsson said. "Today we had Helm and if that happens, I feel comfortable with him and Huds does, too. Still, it comes down to hard work. He's that type of guy. We like to play with him."

Helm replied
"I just gotta jump in there and help do what they've been doing to be successful," he said. "They've been really great down low grinding and cycling the puck. They're obviously scoring as well. I gotta be prepared to do the dirty work down low and move the puck to those guys and let their skill take over. ... Huds and Sammy are good skill players. Huds can pass the puck like no one else and holds onto the puck really well ... get it to him, move my feet and try to get to an open space for him. And Sammy, he can shoot from anywhere."

Johnathan Towes starts out the game scoring the first goal but then a few minutes later the Red Wings respond with Brian Rafalski ripping a shot from nearly the blue line and ended up scoring Red Wings first goal. Assisted by Lidstrom and Datsyuk to tie the game 1-1. Dan Cleary with a unassisted goal! Another break away but this time he scored putting it through pads making it look easy with his third goal in this series against Chicago. 2-1
Jonathan Toews their Caption by the way scores again tying the game up 2-2.

Overtime

Mikael Samuelson scores the game winning goal with 14:47 left in the first and only overtime. 3 on 1 Samuelson started it by stealing the puck in the Blachawks zone getting it to Yiri Hudler who breaks towards Nikolai Khabibulin along side Valteri Filppula and Samuelson trailing right behind. Once inside the Blackhawks defensive zone the three Red Wings formed a triangle against the one opposing teammate and the goalie. Filppula recieved the pass and in turn passed back to the goal scorer Mikael Samuelson. Beating Nikolai Khabibulin who had little chance trying to get back from Hudlers pass.

Adam Burish opens up the game and scores an unassisted goal to make it 1-0.

Dan Cleary with a unassisted goal over Nikolai Khabibulin glove to tie it 1-1.Then Yohan Franzen also scores an unassisted goal with a wrap around through the legs of Nikolai Khabibulin.The first two periods are over with a score of 2-1.

Kris Versteeg scores to tie the game about 3 minutes 10 seconds into the third period.

A few minutes later Brett Lebda took a shot that hit Mikael Samuelson in the leg. Samuelson controls the puck fakes a shot and then rips one into the back of the net to take the lead 3-2.
Zetterberg to Frazen,Cleary deflects the puck to score his second goal 4-2.
Cleary almost scored a hat trick after he had a break away chance, which I think he had Khabibulin beat but missed the back of the net. Then later Cleary almost accepted a pass from Datsyuk for an open netter! Too bad...
Zetterberg instead gets the open net with a pass by Frazen who was quick to get back onto his skates to get an assist.

Henrik Zettergerg and Yohan Franzen assisted with a great pass out front for Yiri Hudler to deflect it perfectly over Hiller's glove(which is on his right). 1-0Darren Helm beats Hiller's blocker side on a very fast breakaway. Spectacular speed!Salanne gets an impressive goal pulling it from behind the net to dump it in. First goal for the Ducks 2-1

Filppula great effort passes to Datsyuk who takes a shot but then gets his rebound behind the net, centers it to Samuelson who scores 3-1.
Perry scores on a terrible penalty call the score is now 3-2

After two periods of play the Red Wings have 25 shots and the Ducks have 20.

Either way I cannot miss game 7. Very important game, hopefully the Wings prevail.

Wings at Anaheim Game 4

Wings down 2-1 in the series. It would be nice for the Red Wings to win this game and tie the series.

Pronger assists Corey Perry early in the game(which I missed).Yohan Franzen scores assisted by Filppula and Ericsson. Frazen scores again with a perfect b-line deflection assisted by Kronwall. I don't care what the commentators say Yohan Franzen has to world class goals.

2-1 Red wings now have the lead!

Perry scores again to tie the game at 2-2.

Marian Hossa regains the lead for the Red Wings assisted by Franzen. 3-2

Hossa scores again assisted by Lidstrom and Filppula making it 4-2.
That's three players between the two teams that have scored two goals each.

Third period Mikael Samuelsson changes that by scoring a ripping wrist shot which makes Anaheim change their goalie. Giguere goes in for Hiller.

Not much of a fight between Kopecky after that but still good to see.

I appreciate versus making it so I missed the beginning of the game. If you cannot tell I'm being sarcastic! You would think living in Michigan I would be able to watch my home team. Even our antenna for the Canadian Channel was showing the Chicago game. Instead we had to resort to the radio.

Game 3 Wings at Ducks

I missed the last game but I guess I didn't miss anything. The first game I was at the bar, couldn't hear a damn thing. Then I was out of town helping a sister move. Since tonight's game is so late I get to watch the game real time.

My prediction is 5-3 Red Wings.

End of first period Salanne scored with a beautiful lead pass. Pretty much a break away pass barely beating Chelios.

2-1 Zetterburg scores one for the wings.

Wisnewski gets injured in the ribs Pavel Datsyuk shot then gets elbowed by Holmstrom. I hope he is alright

The third period is looking a lot more like the Red Wings!
Pavel Datsyuk with terrific passes. Dan Cleary looking good all game.

Osgood and Helm are doing well this game too. Hossa looking like he usually does pulling off moves that are intense for the other team.

Chelios draws 2 penalties! Hopefully The Red Wings can score with this chance?

Game 4 Red Wings Win 6-5 at Columbus Blue Jackets

Just before 2 and a half minutes into the first period Jonathan Erickson got called for roughing, although I failed to see exactly how. Columbus Blue Jackets player #15 Dorrsett missed Erickson who evaded a hit and Dorsett missed crashing into the boards. Which in turn Dorsett tried to retaliate and somehow Erickson gets the call.
So Torres and Dorsett get to sit in the penalty box but with only one call against the Blue Jackets officially.

With that we got our chance when Rafalski stole the puck and passed it to Nicolas Lidstrom who took a shot from the top of the circle, which Steve Mason did stop but gave up a rebound that somehow deflected off his own player #51 Tyutin to open up the scoring 1-0.

# 20 Kristian Huselius at 13:49 left in the first period scores a ripping shot to tie the game 1-1.
Thomas Holmstrom hanging out in front of the net as usual scores making it 2-1 assisted by Pavel Datsyuk and Brad Stuart.

Dan Cleary gets a rebound off the boards, then stuffs it in after a shot by Kopecky also assisted by Valtteri Filppula making it 3-1.
A spectacular save by Chris Osgood at the end of the first period with 56 seconds left. In my opinion it's the save of the game!

Rick Nash scores. It's now 3-2 early in the second period.

RJ Umberger ties the game at 3-3 but then about a minute and a half later Marion Hossa scores to take the lead again! Assisted by Kronwall 4-3

Thomas Holmstrom steals the puck passes it across ice to Marion Hossa who backhands it off the cross bar the puck comes out behind Steve Mason. Then Holmstrom follows up to send it on home stuffing it into the net.
About 46 seconds left in the the first period Dan Cleary scores a spectacular spin around out in front of the net. Assisted by Yohan Franzen and Brian Rafalski.
Red Wings looking great on the power play kills so far during the playoffs. Osgood also looking great these playoffs . He really seems to be stepping it up being solid in net.
Of course theres always penaltys that should have been called but were not.
About 13:30 left in the second period Brian Rafalski got a punch in the face as he was checked into the boards by #20. Nothing was said about it and no call was made.

Second goal a redirection by obviously my favorite player in the NHL Pavel Datsyuk. Just a beautiful pass from Marion Hossa and another assist by Nicolas Lidstrom. 2-0

Henrik Zetterburg scores assisted by Yohan Franzen and Daniel Cleary. 3-0 late in the second period.

The hits and puck possesion by Pavel Datsyuk is amazing! Datsyuk led the Red Wings in hits last game with a total of 6.

Jiri Hudler gets his second goal of the playoffs assisted by Nicolas Kronwall and Brad Stuart. Another deflection off the Blue Jackets, it deflected off a player then hit the post and then must have bounced off Steve Mason about 3-4 times .

Osgood with his 14th shutout, the fans were showing their appreciation by chanting his name and cheering him on his victory.

It was 0-0 until half way through the second period. Which made me sitting on the edge of my seat! Osgood spectacular the whole game but I have to admit I had my doubts. I thought there was the possibility that Ty Conklin would take over goaltending for Chris Osgood.
Making it 1-0 Jiri Hudler scores assisted with the help of a beautiful pass by Valtteri Filppula.
Not even 52 seconds later on the Blue Jackets Cal Clutterbuck scored keeping it the same nail biting feeling as it was when there wasn't a score at all.

Pavel Datsyuk didn't get any points but I thought he did very well this game. With plenty of take aways and killing off penalties early on in the game. Not the greatest calls by the refs in this game, or at least in my opinion they weren't.

At 5'9" and 178lbs Jiri Hudler plays right along with the big guys and at times being called "Happy Hudler" (I assume because he smiles alot).

So far the Islanders seem pretty confident with their defense. 2-0 in the third period.
Pulled Osgood with little over a minute left giving me a heart attack from then on.

They especially liked winning against the Red Wings but we hardly ever see the Islanders? which makes it hard to judge how good of a team they really are.
Yes I admit... I watch mostly my home team but with over 80 games its hard to keep track of other teams.

Just unlucky, the puck wasn't going in for the Red Wings this time but it certainly hit the post enough.(Why that is not considered a shot is beyond me?)

Overall a good game though. Pavel Datsyuk with his tricky ways of playing, always keeps me watching closely. Pavels 5th season in a row with over 20 goals. Still looking good making very few mistakes. Even when he does he ends up usually stealing the puck back.
Roloson with a cheap shot hitting Cleary in the family jewels! I think he deserved to be kicked out of the game for that. If Avery can get in trouble for saying a few measly words than Roloson should of gotten some sort of punishment rather than a little penalty.
Unfortunately I only saw the first period but I think the Wings pretty much were going to win the game.

I'm not sure I agree with Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk having to take the day off just because they missed the All Star game. I for one didn't even watch the All Star game? I did not know however that it was punishable to players that didn't show up to the All Star game?
Watching the game last night was sort of boring and to the people around me last night were saying the same thing. Without Pavel Datsyuk the game was not as exciting for me to watch. He's made me a little spoiled I guess.
Apparently Rick Nash was on his game though last night. Scoring all 3 goals to win it and to add another hat-trick to his career making it 3 hat-tricks in all.
There is no doubt that if Datsyuk and Lidstrom were playing the game would have been very different.
I have to give it up to Marian Hossa for player of the game, an outstanding performance last night. Scored 1 goal and nearly 3 more. Brett Lebda with one goal also good to see. An overtime loss but we can't win all the time.

I think Pavel Datsyuk had possibly one of the greatest nights in his hockey career so far. Being against the rookie goalie Steve Mason, Pavel Datsyuk seemed determined all night just to score on him. Once Datsyuk did score though he didn't settle down. Mason held out as long as he could but ended giving up 2 goals in the third. The second goal was by Hossa very soon after Datsyuks goal. In the end, Datsyuk made it even better after breaking his stick he kicks the puck to Zetterburg for an open net to further their win. Datsyuk was really beyond himself stealing,scoring,assisting and entertaining the crowd with his unbelievable moves.
I believe Pavel has 33 points in 29 games.
I could be wrong about that?
In my Opinion, The Players of the game are Datsyuk,Ty Conklin,Marian Hossa,Zetterburg,Hudler,Samuelson,Filppula,Cleary.

Last night was my first experience ever watching the Red Wings in Joe Louis Arena! I sat in the 9th row just behind the penalty box. And what an experience it was. The excitement of the crowd made it that much more pleasing to be there in person. With a 5 - 3 victory the Red Wings sealed the deal.
